About

I am an independent journalist and researcher working on the effects of social and economic policies in rural India. I have reported for two of India’s leading national dailies, The Hindu(2011-2015), and The Indian Express(2005-2007), and for the news portal Scroll.in, covering labour and social policy.
Some recent work in The Guardian, Al Jazeera, Huffpost, on the 2019 national elections, and on labour.
Book chapter on effects of India’s biometric ID Aadhaar on rural communities in “Dissent on Aadhaar: Big Data Meets Big Brother“(2019).

I am (most) curious about the politics and economics of inequality, and everything people do to reduce it.

A lot of this blog is posts from while I was Jharkhand correspondent for the newspaper, The Hindu, after I moved to Ranchi in September 2012. There are notes, (blurred) photos from interviews, and recent published work, and some poems discovered.

Lal salaam(i) from Ranchi!
